Hire accelerates Flatiron’s mission to advance the treatment of cancer through technology

NEW YORK, NY

Flatiron Health is announcing the appointment of Dr. Robert J. Green, MD, MSCE, as vice president of oncology, adding an experienced community oncologist to its medical team. For the past 15 years, Dr. Green has been a leader in community oncology. As a managing partner of Palm Beach Cancer Institute and former chief medical officer of Cancer Clinics of Excellence, Dr. Green has been at the forefront of molecular based clinical research and payment reform, and brings extensive experience in practice leadership, electronic health record utilization, and data analytics to Flatiron.

“We are delighted that Dr. Green has agreed to bring his expertise to the Flatiron team,” said Nat Turner, co-founder and CEO of Flatiron. “His leadership in community oncology and medical expertise complements our competencies and reinforces our commitment to advance cancer care through technology.”

“The vast majority of cancer patients in the U.S. are treated in community practices, and both their care and the tools doctors use to treat them could be vastly enhanced by greater access to information and technology platforms,” said Dr. Green. “As a community oncologist who has worked with Flatiron over the past year, I know firsthand the power of the Flatiron platform and the enormous potential we have to improve the lives of patients. The fact that the founders felt that it was imperative to have a community oncologist as part of the team is a great indicator of both the value of community oncology, and the importance Flatiron places on it.”

At Flatiron, Dr. Green will collaborate with physicians around the country to ensure that the Flatiron platform meets their needs and lives up to their expectations. He will help ensure that the combination of OncoEMR and OncoAnalytics forms the best-in-class platform for the advancement of cancer care. He will work closely with Dr. Amy Abernethy, Flatiron’s chief medical officer and a leading cancer data scientist, to help life science companies and data partners solve practical data and analytic problems and will contribute to the strategic vision of Flatiron Health.

Dr. Abernethy reflected: “Dr. Green brings both exceptional leadership and insight; we are honored he is joining us. And, his addition heralds our commitment to ensuring that the clinical and scientific insights gained through Flatiron data and technology are optimally informed by the needs of oncologists and patients in community settings across America.”
