Senior Director of Engineering, Technical Platform

NY office

Reimagine the infrastructure of cancer care within a community that values integrity, inspires growth, and is uniquely positioned to create a more modern, connected oncology ecosystem.

We’re looking for a Senior Director of Engineering, Technical Platform to help us accomplish our mission to improve and extend lives by learning from the experience of every person with cancer. Are you ready to be the next changemaker in cancer care?

What You'll Do

This role is on our engineering leadership team, reporting directly to our Chief Technology Officer. In this role, you will consolidate and lead our global Developer Platform and AI infrastructure capabilities — serving ~300 software and data engineers across four core engineering pillars.

  • Treat the Platform as a Product: Lead and evolve our core developer platform with a product mindset. Lead teams that build and support opinionated "paved paths" and self-service capabilities that reduce cognitive load, remove engineering friction, and optimize developer velocity across multiple business units.
  • Co-Drive Platform Strategy: Partner closely with Product Management partners to define end-to-end platform vision, roadmapping, and metrics. Ensure platform investments deliver high-signal business value and delightful experience across technical and non-technical employees.
  • Guide High-Availability Infrastructure: Provide technical depth and strategic guidance for teams managing resilient infrastructure across enterprise data processing, storage, and mission-critical SaaS integrations with strict SLA/SLO requirements.
  • Champion Internal Customers & IT Operations: Deliver exceptional service and operational excellence to all internal stakeholders. Empower developers with seamless platform tooling while providing non-technical employees with reliable corporate IT infrastructure, support, and services.
  • Integrate & Scale AI Capabilities: Evaluate locally incubated AI developer tooling across business units and execute central platform investments to systematically move the engineering organization up the agentic AI maturity curve.
  • Establish AI Cost & Security Governance: Partner closely with engineering, security, and finance leaders to define pragmatic cost controls, risk guardrails, and compliance governance for production AI workloads and developer tools.
  • Enable Enterprise-Wide AI Adoption: Collaborate with leaders across technical and non-technical functions to establish the infrastructure, tooling, and user experiences that enable cross-functional teams to safely leverage AI.
  • Build & Manage High Performing Teams: Develop and lead a robust engineering leadership tier across platform and IT teams by fostering a culture of ownership and excellence, cultivating technical leadership, driving organizational maturity and mobility, and aligning talent strategies with mission-critical outcomes.

At the end of your first year, success would mean: Consolidating global developer platform tooling into seamless paved paths, establishing transparent AI governance and cost controls, and measurable improvement in developer velocity and AI maturity across all four pillars of the business.

Who You Are

You're a kind, passionate, and collaborative problem-solver who values the opportunity to think beyond the way things are. In addition, you’re a product-minded platform leader with 10+ years of experience in engineering leadership, cloud infrastructure, and platform strategy.

  • You believe internal software platforms should be treated with the same customer-centric rigor as external products -- focusing on adoption, developer satisfaction, and measurable impact.
  • You have proven experience leading platform engineering organizations supporting hundreds of software and data engineers across distributed teams.
  • You possess strong technical depth across large-scale data processing pipelines, storage architectures, cloud platform services, and high-availability enterprise environments.
  • You have hands-on or strategic experience operationalizing AI/ML developer workflows, LLM infrastructure, or agentic developer tools.
  • You understand the impact of empathetic communication and excel at building trust across engineering pillars, product partners, security teams, and business functions.
  • You have a track record of driving cross-functional alignment on cost governance and risk guardrails without introducing unnecessary bureaucratic friction.
  • You are a dedicated people manager who builds high-trust, low-overhead environments focused on unblocking teams, eliminating single points of failure, and growing engineering leaders.

Extra Credit

  • You have experience with healthcare data compliance, security frameworks (HIPAA, HITRUST), or working within regulated technical environments.
  • You have successfully led organizational shifts toward platform-as-a-product or developer enablement models in multi-pillar engineering orgs.

Where You’ll Work

In this hybrid role, you’ll have a defined work location that includes work from home and 3 office days set by you and your team. For more information on our approach to hybrid work, please visit the how we work website.
