Make a difference from day one

From day one, you’ll have the opportunity to work directly with key stakeholders across the company to develop the products our partners use every day. You’ll find the mentorship, coaching and best practices available at large companies, but you’ll also have the immediate impact, meaningful work and cross-functional exposure found at startups.

Learn quickly, grow continuously

You’ll start with a class of other interns or new graduates and begin with a crash course on cancer, software engineering methodologies and Flatiron culture. From there, you’ll be paired with a mentor whose focus is on your development and helping you solve real-world problems. You’ll also be mentored by industry leaders, have regular career conversations and have the opportunity to participate in one of our many intra-company reading groups on topics ranging from front-end technologies to system design and site-reliability engineering. We also offer training courses through Flatiron University on presentation skills, the science behind giving and receiving feedback, email etiquette and much more.

Our multi-purpose [email protected] space where we gather for lunch and company-wide events

Connect and collaborate

Company-wide hackathons, team outings and knowledge infusions are just a few of the ways we come together to learn and get to know each other in our sprawling Soho space. You can help shape our culture by joining our Engineering Culture Club, writing for our engineering blog, leading a hackathon project or presenting at engineering all-hands meetings.

2017 intern class

Flatiron’s internship program

As an intern at Flatiron, you’ll own a project and collaborate with members of the Flatiron community to bring it to life. At the end of the summer, you’ll present it to the entire company. Projects range from building new tools, optimizing workflows or discovering new solutions. Past intern projects have included:

  • Beginning a ground-up rebuild of Flatiron’s patient portal
  • Concepting a SMS-based nurse triage system for clinics to manage their patients
  • Building a patient experience visualizer to help researchers understand the entire patient journey
  • Creating a model for more intelligent patient data search using advanced machine learning technologies

Interns will also receive a housing stipend and have the opportunity to participate in unique outings around New York City, like Escape the Room, Bubble Soccer, New York City Football Club soccer games and bowling at Chelsea Piers.
